WOW! What an experience. . . .Where do I start? I met Dr. Klauss, author of the Doula Book, and his wife, authoring a new book to help women in chilbirth who have experienced abuse.

It was awesome to spend time with a group of midwives, public health advocates, doulas and grandmas. More later - my kid wants me to read some bedtime stories now.

Well, finally I'm blogging. I am a doula living in New York City. My daughter starts preschool this fall, and soon I travel to Denver, to visit her grandfather. I am reading tons of books on pregnancy, chilbirth, breastfeeding, etc. and find that I have a lot to learn, even from the not so good ones. I read a book about a midwife that was really awesome, called The Baby Catcher. It was really wonderful. I don't know if I'll ever be a midwife myself, but it was really exciting reading. I stayed up all night to read this book! I am working on a website with links to great sites on pregnancy and childbirth. . .hope to post the site to this blog, soon. It will be terrific to put my MLS (Masters degree in Library and Information Science) to work. A long forgotten book review of mine has been published, and that was more than a little thrilling, but unrelated to being a doula. I have long had a list of pregnancy and chilbirth sites that I have shared with past co-workers and now I find myself in a career interest where my resources will be appreciated. I will NOT use this site to detail births I attend, since they are strictly confidential, but I WILL share my thoughts, philosophies, best practices and summaries of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding-related conferences. There is a terrific conference happening at the Open Center, soon and I hope to gush about it, some.
